Daejin Choi
최대진(1974년생)은 부산에서 태어나 프랑스로 떠나 유학을 떠나 우연히 미술을 시작했고 오랜 기간 프랑스에 살았다. 오랜 외국 생활에 얻게된 작가의 경계인으로의 위치 혹은 딜레마에서 나오는 개인적이고 미시적인 경험과 사유들과 동시대의 다양하게 전개되는 역사적, 사회적인 조건들과 결합하는 조형적 작업들을 해오고 있다.
2007년 파리세르지 국립미술학교를 졸업하고, 2008년 리용국립미술학교 Post-Diplome 과정에 연구원이자 작가로 활동했다. 프랑스 국립현대미술센터 파크 셍 레제( Parc St-Leger), 에스파스 퀴글러(스위스, 제네바), 대안공간 루프, 사루비아다방, 소마드로잉센터, 아마도예술공간, 페리지 갤러리 등에서 개인전을 했고, 부산현대미술관, 국립현대미술관, 제12회 광주비엔날레, 국립아시아문화전당, 광주시립미술관, 대전시립미술관, 토탈미술관, Nuit Blanche(파리시 미디어아트축제), 하이트컬렉션, 아카데미아 웅게리아(로마), 셍테티엔느 현대미술관(프랑스), 리용현대미술관, 히로시마 전일본은행 등, 유럽과 아시아에서 다양한 그룹전에 참가했으며 파리, 마르세유, 모스크바, 제네바, 서울, 뮌헨, 히로시마, 느베르(프랑스), 제네바 등지에서 레지던시 프로그램에 참가했다. 2009년 리용현대미술관이 주관한 RDV 작가상을 수상했다.
Daejin Choi(b.1974) was born in Busan, left for France to study, accidentally started art and ended up living in France for a long time. He has been working on art that combines his personal and microscopic experiences and thoughts from his dilemmas and position as a marginal man during his long expat life, and the historical and social conditions that develop in a variety of contemporary times.
He graduated from the National School of Art of Paris-Cergy in 2007 and worked as a researcher and artist for the Post-Diploma course at the National Art School of Lyon in 2008. He has held solo exhibitions at the Parc Saint Léger Center for Contemporary Art in France, Espace Kugler (Geneva, Switzerland), Alternative Space LOOP, Project Space Sarubia, SOMA Drawing Center, Amado Art Space, and Perigee Gallery, and has taken part in various group exhibitions across Europe and Asia, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the 12th Gwangju Biennale, The Asia Culture Center, the Gwangju Museum of Art, the Daejeon Museum of Art, the Total Museum of Contemporary Art, the Nuit Blanche event in Paris, the HITE Collection, the Hungarian Academy in Rome, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Saint-Étienne, the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art, the Former Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch. He has also taken part in residency programs in Paris, Marseilles, Moscow, Geneva, Seoul, Munich, Hiroshima, and Nevers (France). In 2009, he won the RDV artist prize hosted by the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art.
